DAVID WOODLAND, PH.D.

Dr. David Woodland earned his Bachelor of Science in biochemistry from the University of Bath in Great Britain in 1982 and his Ph.D. in Immunology from the Max Planck Institute for Immunobiology in Freiburg, West Germany in 1986. 

From 1986 -1990 he worked as a post-doctoral associate at the National Jewish Hospital in Denver, CO, in the laboratory of Dr. Ed Palmer.  In 1990, he established his own independent research program in viral immunology as an Assistant Professor at St. Jude Childrens’ Research Hospital in Memphis, TN. 

David joined the Trudeau Institute in 1999, studying how cellular immune responses fight viral and bacterial infections of the lung.  In 2008, Dr. Woodland was appointed President and Director of the Trudeau Institute.  In 2011, he accepted a position as Chief Scientific Officer with Keystone Symposia, and continues to serve the Institute as a member of the adjunt faculty.

1. What are the mechanics of a CD8+ T cell recall response to secondary virus?
2. How is antigen handled during pulmonary infections?
3. How does age impact established CD8+ T cell memory?
4. How does the immune response deal with persistent pathogens?
